DELHI-LEH BUS SERVICE
New Delhi: The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has revived its Delhi-Leh bus service and this can be a popular alternative to travelling by air. The fare is Rs. 670 (about US Dollars 14). Leh in Ladhakh (Jammu and Kashmir) is a popular summer tourist destination of India and the surface route is utilized by many tourists.

HUMAYUN’S TOMB TO BE OPEN TILL 10 P.M.
New Delhi: The Archaeological Survey of India has said that Humayun’s Tomb will be kept open to public up to 10 p.m. daily from this month. Humayun’s tomb is one of the most visited monuments in New Delhi. Its maintenance and illumination work has been sponsored and funded by the Oberoi Group of Hotels.

JET AIRWAYS TO OFFER MORE FLIGHTS
New Delhi: Jet Airways is to offer more flights on Mumbai-Bangalore-Mumbai, Delhi-Bangalore-Delhi and Mumbai-Hyderabad-Mumbai from this month onwards. It has also launched a composite holiday package Jet Escapes leisure package.The airline is also shortly introducing Delhi-Leh-Delhi daily flights.Leh will be the 39th destination for the airline. The airline is increasing its frequency on the Delhi-Mumbai-Delhi sector to nine per day.

A NEW EXPRESSWAY PLANNED FOR AGRA
New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh (UP) Government has planned a $ 350 million six-lane Taj Expressway that would link Delhi with Agra. It is expected to offer faster road connections than the current highway.The Taj Expressway Authority has been established for this purpose and the UP Governments is seeking a strategic partner for same.

IA TO INTRODUCE DIRECT HYDERABAD-DUBAI FLIGHTS
New Delhi: Indian Airlines (IA) is starting thrice-a-week Hyderabad to Dubai direct flights from June 8 using Airbus 300 aircraft.
  The airline is also increasing its Madras (Chennai) to Kuala Lumpur services from four a week to seven.The airline is also going to lease four more Airbus A320’s and this will help it add more destinations and frequencies. It has recently acquired two A320’s on dry lease.

IA TO HAVE DAILY SERVICE TO KUALA LUMPUR
New Delhi: Indian Airlines (IA) is increasing its frequency of flights to Kuala Lumpur from Chennai (Madras) from four for a week to seven per week.
Indian Airlines is also introducing three flights from Hyderabad to Dubai next week.The airline is also going to lease four more Airbus A320’s and this will help it add more destinations and frequencies. It has recently acquired two A320’s on dry lease.

TOURISM POLICY SEEKS A GREATER ROLE FOR PRIVATE SECTOR
Kolkata: Mr. M. P. Bezbaruah, Secretary Tourism, Government of India said Union Government’s draft tourism policy is almost ready. He said private sector investment will play a much greater role. He also said there would be a high-level tourism advisory committee with greater public participation. There would be greater co-ordination between various ministries like tourism, external affairs, home and aviation to make tourism into a major industry, he added.

AMARNATH YATRA FROM JULY 5

ammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced that this year the Amarnath Yatra-2001 is being organized during July-August. The visit to this holy shrine will start from July 5, 2001. The route will be from both Pahalgram and Sonamarg-Baltal. However, the Holy Mace (Charri-Mubarak) will proceed via the Pahalgam route. The Amarnath Yatra involves trekking at high altitude upto 14,500 feet under difficult physical and sometimes challenging weather conditions. It is roughly a 6-day return trek from Pahalgram to the Holy Cave Darshan. Similarly, it takes two days of strenuous trekking to approach the Holy Cave via the Sonamarg-Baltal route. Participants should, therefore, be medically fit and in good physical condition.

GRAND PALACE INTER-CONTINENTAL OPENS IN SRINAGAR
New Delhi: The Grand Palace Inter-Continental Srinagar has recently opened after large scale refurbishing.
  This heritage hotel was originally built in 1910 as the palace residence of the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir. It has now been fully restored – and is a complete destination by itself.Situated amidst sylvan surroundings, the hotel offers 115 palace suites, cottages and rooms. With its own sprawling land-scaped lawns the property overlooks the city’s famous Dal Lake and majestic mountains. HOTEL ASSOCIATION OF INDIA AND UGANDA INVESTMENT AUTHORITY SIGN MOU 
New Delhi: The first ever Afro-Asian Cooperation Agreement between Hospitality and Tourism sectors was concluded at New Delhi on 22nd May 2001 between the Hotel Association of India (HAI) and the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA). The Memorandum of Understanding aims at fostering mutual co-operation in the hotels, hospitality and tourism sectors in their respective countries.Mr. Lalit Suri, President, Hotel Association of India and Mr. A. Lugolobi, Director, Uganda Investment Authority signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.

ASSOCIATION OF DOMESTIC TOUR OPERATORS OF INDIA ELECTS NEW OFFICE BEARERS
New Delhi: The Executive Council of Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI) has elected its office bearers for a two-year term. Mr. Jyoti Kapur of Vietrade Tours and Travels Pvt Ltd is the now President succeeding Mr. B.L. Nijhawan of Nijhawan Travels.
  Mr. Mukesh Jagga of Viva Holidays (P) Ltd has been elected as general secretary of the association vice Mr. Rothin Sircar, Mrs. Inderjeet Uppal of Hi Fly Travels continues as Vice-President for the second term. The Council also elected Mr. Ravinder Nath Sharma as its new Treasurer.
